Orlando Cypress Tree Swamp

by Kayla on June 30, 2009

We still need to do Part 2 of our photo session with Rootography and we were in search of another unique place today. Mainly we both want to sit on a tree branch together, so finding that tree was our goal. First we uncovered what may be a pretty unknown spot – Greenwood Urban Wetlands right outside of downtown Orlando. We didn’t even know that there was a such thing as an urban wetland. You know, aren’t those kinds of things sucked out when a city is built? Just kidding. : ) This park has lots of sunny spots and bright green grass.

The best part is a walkway (which really is a barrier actually) that wraps around part of the lake – it is kind of lumpy and hard to walk on so I’ll remember that for my choice of shoes! This area also happens to go well with our ceremony location! (The concrete structure + Maitland Art Center structures are sort of alike.)

But what could be better than interesting walkways and sparkling lakes? It’s the fact that there is a cypress swamp surrounding it all. Our wedding invitations just so happen to have cypress trees (even with water below) imprinted on them. So it could not be more perfect to have even more cypress tree action for the rest of our shoot.

After our swamp adventure, we can go sit on trees in Constitution Green which is about 3 or 4 minutes away. We didn’t take any pictures of that place, but we have always noticed some low hanging Live Oak branches there. Here is a photo of one tree there from the City of Orlando website.

P.S. This post is mainly for Nathan and Jensey – so hi!
