The Best Website Advice You’ll Ever Read

We know a lot of people who are starting new projects and websites so we wanted to give some advice that has worked very well for us.

Have fun.
To have a successful project now and for the rest of its shelf life, you’ll need to make sure that you have fun doing it. The expiration date is only set by you. Whether you want to create a following, help others, get new ideas, make money from ads, products or services, it will require a lot of hard work to keep the spotlight on you. If the attention to your site dies, then it’s all over. You’ll need to keep your site updated and in continuous development. No abandonment is allowed! This job will never be over so make sure you love the idea, then you are set to never expire!

Easy does it.
If you are planning on creating a blog or community, use what works. WordPress has excellent themes that are SEO-ready and there are plenty of forum applications that are free and can send you well on your way to thousands of users. You may need to upgrade in the future – but we’re in the present! To get things up and running now, use what is free and keep your costs low. You do not have to spend a lot of money to get things rolling. Attention and content is what matters most at this point.

Make details less detailed.
Who is going to help you with this project? If you get too many heads, ideas may clash. It’s best to start out with just yourself or a few close friends you can trust who already have experience with what you are doing. As far as how the site, logo, etc. looks – decide it yourself! In web design people never seem to agree, so just get it done as quickly as possible in a very clean and optimized way. You can add eye candy later and lay on the intricacies. For now, steam ahead with something simple! Get it done and online.

Treat others how you want to be treated.
This familiar phrase seems to work for everything, even websites. What do you like the most about your favorite websites? Do they write short articles or long ones? Do they put a lot of links in their paragraphs to other sites, or keep everything inside their own? What annoys you and what do you love? For example, here with DotResults, we like photos with just about every article. It livens things up and makes reading something more exciting. It can also help get an idea stuck into your reader’s memory. Don’t just do what the next person is doing because it seems to work, do what you think is best. One part of getting attention is doing something different. Get frosty.
